Some Family Friends and Dreams of Alaska
=======================================
Today some old family friends came over to visit. They lived in Seattle once and I think that was the reason my parents invited them over for dinner. Really nice folks that we used to visit awhile back. They still have connections in the city, so prospects of finding good housing are looking up. It really has been a rollercoaster ride - this housing search. And in the middle of the conversation, they brought up the possibilities of fun things to do in Seattle. They mentioned working on a fishing boat in Alaska over the summer. And that really appealled to the romantic side of me. Romantic ... not in the kissy mushy yucky stuff, but romantic in the doing something great in life. I just imagine me, sitting and writing on the deck of the boat as the sun is setting after a long day's work filled with hard, sweaty, manual labor.
So I looked it up some more. And so I guess its not the safest job in the world. Many people have died due to inexperience. And you're pretty much stuck on a boat all summer long, making about $4,000 to $5,000 a month at best. Which is pretty good, i guess. But during the summer, I can definitely find much better jobs than that I think. Who knows? I also am slight enticed to apply for a job at Glacier National Park again. Montana was just such the beautiful place. Campus Crusade has a summer Alaska project as well, so we'll see what I can find. Summer is still a long ways away. Look at me, daydreaming about next summer when this summer isn't even over yet.
